Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Knownwise ("Knownwise", "we", "us") collects when you use knownwise.com and the Knownwise service, why we collect it, who else handles it, and the choices you have.
Knownwise checks whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity recommend your brand, audits websites for how well AI can read them, and, if you ask it to, opens GitHub pull requests that fix problems on your site.
Questions or requests: support@knownwise.com.
What we collect
Account information. When you sign up we collect your name and email address. If you sign up with a password, we store only a one-way hash of it. If you sign in with Google, Google gives us your name, email address and profile picture. We never receive your Google password.
Sign-in sessions. While you are signed in we keep a session record so you stay signed in. It includes the IP address and browser information of the device you signed in from, which helps us spot misuse of your account.
Your workspace. The organization, brands, website addresses, competitors, tracked questions and settings you add; the AI answers we collect for them; and the scores, reports, alerts and recommendations we produce from them. When you chat with the Knownwise agent, we keep the conversation so you can come back to it.
Free audits. The website address you submit. If you give us your email address to unlock or receive the full report, we store it and send the report to it.
Email checks. When you enter an email address to sign up or to unlock an audit, we check that the address can receive mail and is not a throwaway address. For that check we keep a one-way hash of the address and the result, not the address itself.
Billing. Payments are handled by Stripe. We store your plan, subscription status and Stripe customer reference. We never see or store your full card number.
Product usage. Our servers record product events, such as signing up, starting a trial, running an audit or opening a fix. These events are stored in our database and also sent to PostHog so we can understand how Knownwise is used. They contain internal account identifiers and the event details, never your questions, AI answers, full web addresses, email address or name.
PostHog also runs in your browser on knownwise.com and in the app. It records the pages you open, clicks, page speed, errors, and a replay of the session. What you type into forms is hidden in the replay. When you are signed in, this is linked to your account's internal identifier. We use it to find what is confusing or broken.
Site measurement. Pages on knownwise.com load Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity in your browser. Google Analytics records which pages you open, how you arrived, and general device and browser information. Clarity records clicks, scrolling and a replay of the session, which shows us where the site is confusing. We do not use either tool for advertising.
Server logs. Like most websites, our servers log IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested, to keep the service secure and working.
How measurement works
To measure how AI assistants talk about your brand, we send each tracked question to the AI models behind those assistants, through AI service providers. We store the answers so we can score them and show them to you. We send the question and the public facts needed to ask it, such as your brand and competitor names. We do not send your account details.
To check Google's AI Overviews, we send the Google searches you track, with your country and language, to a search-results provider. We send nothing else.
The Knownwise agent and our analysis of answers also use AI models from AI service providers.
To audit a website, we fetch its public pages, either directly or through a web-reading service. We read only what any visitor could see. We do not log in to your site.
Optional connections
You choose whether to connect any of these, and you can disconnect them at any time.
Google Search Console and Google Analytics. If you connect them to a brand, we ask Google for read-only access, and only for the account you choose.
- Google Search Console (
webmasters.readonly): for the one property you pick, the daily search figures: queries, pages, clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position, and, for up to 100 of your pages, whether Google has indexed them and why not. - Google Analytics 4 (
analytics.readonly): the list of your GA4 properties so you can pick one, the names of its key events, then, for visits that arrived from AI assistants, daily sessions, users, converted visits, key events and revenue by AI assistant and landing page, with the key events counted by name.
These figures are shown only to members of your organization, on the brand's pages and in its reports, and are used to suggest pages to improve. We do not sell this data, do not use it for advertising, do not use it to train AI models, and do not let anyone outside your organization read it. The Google access token is encrypted at rest and never written to logs. You can disconnect in Settings or at myaccount.google.com/permissions, which stops all access straight away.
Knownwise's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Bing Webmaster Tools. If you connect it to a brand, we ask Microsoft for read-only access (webmaster.read), and only for the account you choose. Bing Webmaster Tools: the list of your verified sites so you can pick one, then, for up to 100 of your pages, whether Bing has crawled them, when, and any crawl errors. When you send a page to Bing from Opportunities, we submit that page's address through IndexNow so Bing can fetch it. We send the address only, and only for a page on the brand's site.
This information is shown only to members of your organization. We do not sell it, do not use it for advertising, do not use it to train AI models, and do not let anyone outside your organization read it. The access token is encrypted at rest and never written to logs. You can disconnect in Settings, which stops Knownwise using the site. To remove the app's access at Bing, remove Knownwise in Bing Webmaster Tools too.
GitHub. If you want Knownwise to fix issues on your site, you install our GitHub App on the repositories you choose. We use that access to read those repositories and to open pull requests. To write a fix, a copy of the repository is worked on in an isolated environment on our servers, and the relevant files are sent to AI models to draft the change. Knownwise never merges a pull request. You review it and decide whether to merge it. You can remove the app at any time in your GitHub settings.
AI clients (MCP). You can connect an AI client, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to Knownwise through our MCP server. You approve each client yourself. Whatever Knownwise data the client asks for, at your request, goes to that client and its provider and is handled under their terms. You can revoke a client's access at any time.
How we use information
- To provide Knownwise: run audits and checks, collect and analyze AI answers, show your reports, open the fixes you ask for, and send the emails you have asked for or turned on.
- To run your account and billing.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To understand how Knownwise is used and improve it.
- To contact you about your account and the service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data to train AI models.
Emails
We send account emails, such as email verification and password resets, and the alerts and reports you turn on. Email is sent through an email delivery provider.
On the free plan, and after a paid plan ends, we also email you a weekly check of your top questions: what changed in AI answers about your brand, and one thing to do. We send occasional tips and offers too, and no more than two of these emails in any week. Each kind has its own switch in Settings → Notifications, every one of them has an unsubscribe link, and you can pause them all for 30 days.
To decide how often the weekly check is sent and to learn which emails help, we record when an email reached you, when it was opened (an invisible image in the email tells us), when you clicked a link in it (the link passes through knownwise.com first), and when you signed in. We keep these as dates and times only, for 13 months.
If you unlock a free audit with your email address, we send you the report and then up to three follow-up emails about the audit over the following days. Every follow-up and report email has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn each kind of email off in Settings.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the service.
Where your data is kept
Knownwise is hosted in the United States. Some of the providers above also process data in other countries. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and workspace data while your account is active. When you delete a brand, its tracked data is deleted with it, including any Search Console, Google Analytics and Bing Webmaster figures. Audits you ran stay with your account until you delete your account or ask us to remove them. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep some of it, such as billing records, to meet legal or tax obligations. Records of the emails we sent you, and when each was delivered, opened or clicked, are kept for 13 months. Server logs are kept only as long as we need them to run and secure the service.
Security
We protect data in transit with HTTPS and encrypt sensitive credentials, such as connected-account tokens, at rest. Access to production systems is limited to the people who run Knownwise. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us at support@knownwise.com if you notice anything suspicious.
Cookies
We use the cookies Knownwise needs to work: to keep you signed in, to remember your language, and to remember which brand you last viewed. Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and PostHog set their own cookies so they can recognize a return visit and keep a session together. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the service still works without the measurement cookies. We do not run ads.
Your rights
You can view and update your account details in Settings, turn emails off, and disconnect Google, Bing, GitHub or an AI client at any time.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. To make a request, email support@knownwise.com from the address on your account. We will reply within one month.
Children
Knownwise is a business tool and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect.
